Doctoral Student

Kirsten Van Dyke

I am a third-year doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology program at UW-Milwaukee. I have a master’s degree and licensure in School Counseling and received my Trauma-Informed Care Certificate from UW-Milwaukee. I have also received training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and the Zero Suicide model. My research interests include trauma, grief, and Indigenous health and well-being. Through my clinical experiences, I have gained experience working with individuals who have experienced complex trauma and substance use concerns. My therapeutic approach is person-centered and flexible, allowing me to adapt to the unique needs, experiences, and goals of each client.

As a therapist, I strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment that provides space to process experiences, build skills, and develop tools that can be utilized to navigate future challenges. Along with individual therapy, I believe assessments can be a valuable tool for gaining a deeper understanding and greater clarity about an individual’s experiences and needs. I view the assessment process as an opportunity for growth, understanding, and planning. My goal is for each assessment to feel collaborative, individualized to the client, and insightful, while providing information that can help guide future growth and support.
